Erik Magnussen
– an industrial ceramist. (1940-2014)
Erik Magnussen was a ceramist, educated at the Danish School of Design. As a young man he worked with art – including graphics and sculpture, but his interest in industrial production led him to industrial design. He saw his ceramic background as ideal for all kinds of industrial design. He therefore took on assignments within an unusually wide range, including tabletops, furniture, lamps, medical equipment and accessories in several different materials such as ceramics, porcelain, plastic, steel, aluminium, pewter, wood and leather.
Several of Erik Magnussen's works for, among others, Bing & Grøndahl and Stelton have been awarded design prizes, and as a very young man he was honored with the Ole Haslunds Legat and the Lunning Prize – later the Møbelprisen, Designer of the Year and the Bindesbøll Medal.
